I look down at the young woman who just walked in. Of course I know who she works for, but I still don't appreciate her seeming arrogence, after all she is only a major. I motion her to follow me into my office, where I ask "What is it this time?"

"Oh so you aren't an atheist. Atheism suits me well, thankyou, but what do you believe, if you don't mind sharing."

"General Kolov wants a situation report. He's noted that you have procured a large quantity of JP-5 aviation kerosene to your department's use which has raised national motor fuel prices by an average of 0.6 cents per gallon. Also he wants to know why you requested large quantities of spares for the MX missile batteries." I demand in a calm voice. I light a cigerette despite the clearly posted 'Thank you for not smoking' sign and wait for my answer.

My lips curl at the sour cigarette odor. "We've recieved large amounts of credible intelligence that there may be revolution brewing in many parts of the world. Based on that information we asked to, and were granted permission to, step up to DEFCON 4. All our nuclear forces are on alert, our Peacekeeper missile batteries are on +10 standby and we have begun flying 24 hour a day deterrance patrols again. Basically we've been thrown back to the late 1950s." I scowl. Having that much megatonnage in the air at once was just asking for trouble...

"Excellent. It may be nessasary to keep your bombers in the air indefinately, however you can stand down your missile batteries. The bombers will be sufficient deterrant for now." I lean against the door frame and drag my cigarette. "Your reports about the state of world affairs are accurate general. We are currently formulating a 'Better Dead than Red' defense strategy for if things go too far. We are giving you conditional nuclear release authority, the use of your nuclear weapons is at your discresion. You will recieve the presidential mandate later. Good day." I walk out of the office.

"Certainly. I haven't much come to a definite conclusion yet, but I am an existentialist at heart. I guess you could say I'm an agnostic, and respect all forms of spirituality and religion, despite some Marxists I know." Sakari replies.
"Not talking about anyone in specific, of course."

Alejos continued typing and, via the 4th Internationale's website, sent out an e-mail to see if people would be interested in joining his rally. He was going to drive down to Mexico and take a plane to Brazillia where he had found some people who were willing to set up a rally for the Socialist cause.

"Damn it!" I say as soon as the door shuts. I have just been handed control over every life on this planet, and I never wanted that sort of control. I walk back out to the control room and look at the world map with a new appreciation of just how fragile the world really is...

"I see." Bassarov replies, wondering what he thinks of existentialism and spirituality. He is not a spiritual young man. "You seem very laid back. I wish I wasn't so uptight sometimes. Maybe you can teach me to play cards when we arrive in Moscow."

Sakari smiles.
"I would love to teach you if you'd be willing to learn." I reply. "And life has taught me that it's frivolous to get upset about something you can't change, which was the best thing that ever happened to me."

"It is difficult to determine what you can and can not change." Bassarov replies.
"I would wrongly try to change things, than accept the things in this world that I find unacceptable."

((Hey Alejos, there is a socialist meeting in Moscow. If you escape to there, you could go. That is where Bassarov, Erich, and Sakari are going.))
"Trust me, this ain't luck. That English bastard is getting what he deserves," Sweeney says, flicking ash. "I agree with the Russian bloke."

Alice slowly woke up and pushed herself up and felt her head throbbing. "oh....what happened?" She slowly stood up and tried to walk down by the carts. So far she was succeding.

((Shoot, I'm sorry LuLu, I didn't catch that you posted back...))
"Hey, Lulu?" I ask to the silence at the end of the phone. I lower the reciever again and whisper to Adam.
"I think something bad happened to her mother..." I say, trying not to sound callous. "We should take her out tonight." I lift up the reciever again, and wait for a response.

Alejos continued checking and sending e-mails and finally came across something of interest. A meeting in Moscow...
"Hmmm... Mexico is only about an hours drive if you obey the speed limit, 20 minutes if you floor it... from there planefare is about... oh, I don't know, relatively cheap compared to the American prices..." he thought out loud. Finally he smiled and got into a more liesure outfit.
"Where you goin', Freak Boy?" asked Bob.
"AWOL to Mexico for cheep beer. Can I borrow your car?"
Bob tossed him the keys. "Here. Bring it back in one piece."
"No problem. I'll see you in a few days."
Alejos got into the car and checked his wallet. He had more than enough for airfare to Moscow. He smiled and floored it. "Mexico here I come!"
