I close my eyes and let him touch me. I suppose I am more used to this because of Shura. I touch Rod's hand.
"You are a good and kind man. I feel happy when I am with you."

We could take a trip out to the rainforest. I heard that the environmentalist girl wanted to go out there. It might be fun. I suggest to him.
I really don't think I want to stay here tonight. The place is trashed. We should get a hotel room.

"Ok, sure," he says, stepping over one of his sloshed Comrade's to get to the door.
"Where do you suggest we go?"

We could stay at the same hotel the others are. I would like to visit with them a little more.

I return from a trip to China and will have a long weekend off. This is nice since it is rare that I get time off at all. I am not sure what to do even. I sit in my office finishing up my work, when I remember something or someone. I quickly open my planner where I had jotted down his number when I was in Syria. I wonder if he is still there.
I call James Mahon's hotel room and wait to see if he answers....

"Sure, but you should know that Vodya's in jail for the protest thing, and I don't know what happened to the others," he said, informing her that they might not be there.
He made his way to the door and held it open for Soledad.
"After you."

That's horrible I don't know Bassarov well since we never talked, but it is still bad that it happened to him.
At least he was the only one of us who got arrested? Right?

"Like I said, I don't know... but we can hope," he says as they leave.
They arrive at the hotel and rent a room together, since it's cheaper that way.

The Chicago protests end without many arrests or injurries. Maybe we were all expecting something more. It was bigger than in the past years, but there was something missing. As I walk down the street I feel let down. Maybe like a person who was expecting the end of the world on Jan 1 2000, but nothing came.

"Well I was just calling because I haven't heard from you much lately. How is the mission trip going by the way?" I ask. I did help arrange this perticular trip, and I am more than a little curious how it's going.

The room is nice. I look around and feel content. Thanks, I like this room. I am glad to get away from Cheech and Tommy. They get on my nerves.

It's all pretty boring dad. I just work serving soup and then giving out bibles. I feel a little alone, but I have to stay until they don't need me here any more I respond. I really don't feel like talking to my dad. I feel like I am hiding something and I just want him to go away.

"Oh, they're not so bad... sure they jabber on and on in Portugese, and sure they drink and smoke and trash the place... but they are loyal Socialists and they try to be decent people... they just end up screwing up more often than not.
"Cool, this room has two beds, now I don't have to sleep on the couch."

You're so little that you don't need a bed. We could just have a big dresser and pull out one of the drawers for you to sleep in. I tease him. I hope he doesn't mind that I tease him for his height. It is all for fun.

"Okay." I say, wondering why she's bored. Normally these trips involve discussing things with natives and helping those that want to convert to Christianity to do so. "Well just give me a call when you're ready to leave and your mom and I will pick you up at the airport, okay?"
