Post by Alejos H. Coy IV on May 14, 2005 0:04:50 GMT -5
As the gas falls, Alejos drops his weapon. It doesn't go off, since the safety is still on. His eyes sting and as he tries to find his balance, he falls off of the car and onto the officer.
"Assault! Assault," shouts the officer he falls on.
"Oh bullshit," Alejos coughs out as he regains his breath somewhat. "I... can't even... see! IT BURNS!!"
It takes about 10 minutes total for the cops to arrest everyone they want. As they're being crammed in the paddy wagon, Alejos reaches an arm out the back window throught he bars.
"I want my lawyer! I want my doctor! I want a ham and cheese sandwich," he shouts as the car drives off into the distance.

Poor guy, they just took him off. What can we do for him? I am sure he will be in prison a while for this.

"I don't know... Can't we try to post bail? Even if we can just get him out it'd be a token gesture for the rest of the party."

"We'll wait for things to settle down." Bassarov says as he watches the police cars leave with the arrested workers. He feels bad for Alejos and that this happened. But at least there are a lot of workers who were not there, and who are probably armed now. "We might be able to bribe some corrupt official to get him out of prison. That might be the best idea. I am sure there is no shortage of corrupt officials around here."
"Or we could go along with Selja's idea. It depends on what bail is I suppose or how long they plan to detain him. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens."

"Yeah, that'd work too." I say as I drag my cigarette, still not really noticing that I am doing so. "But either way where are we going to get the money?"

"Too bad Sakari isn't here. He way always good for the money." Bassarov replies.
"Maybe I will give him a call later and see what he can do for us."

"I think that foils my plans to go to the rainforest. Oh well, maybe I will just go alone while you two are figuring out what to do about Alejos."
"Is that okay with you, sis?"

I spend most of the next day and a half laying around the hotel room, half naked, smoking constantly and eating foods I will probaly regret later. Eventually I get a call from Grey's mother, who I talk to for several hours and feel a lot better afterwards. I take the first flight back to North Dakota, and immediately go to a nearby clothing store to get a funeral dress.

"Sure, go have fun. I wish I could go with you, but maybe we'll get another chance soon." I say, meaning it. As Bassarov and I step out of the jeep I say "Well we could also talk to some of your other socialist friends, like that Tom Mic Cloud guy. You have a lot of friends, I'm sure we can come up with at least most of the money."

I drive off and head for the rainforest myself. I really need to do more work for the Green Party. Oh well, maybe when I get back into the city I will sign up for some conservation project.

"Yes, I am confident that I can figure something out." Bassarov replies. He thinks of all of the people he knows and who might have money or influence.

"Well let's at least get out of here before they do start to suspect us." I say nervously. "I'm sure you'll figure it out. You always do."

Bassarov and Selja walk away from the scene. He figures he can get Alejos out somehow, but worries about all of the workers who are now in prison. He wishes he could do something for them. "Everything just has to be so organized or else it doesn't work out. We really are amatuers." He states.

"Oh." I say with surprise, since I have always been under the impression that Bassarov was some sort of policial genius, probaly because I know almost nothing about it. "Well we can figure something out."

"The mistake that happened today was that the standoff was too small. An armed standoff with the police is only going to work out in a very narrow set of conditions. If it was every factory worker in the city, armed, and on strike, it could have worked out, but a band of a dozen armed workers is just going to end up in disaster."
"Everything has to be timed perfectly. Everything has to be done just right." Bassarov replies.
"In that case, they should have either ran or surrendered."
