"We can watch the movie after we talk to Hope." Cambridge replies to Tom. "But popcorn would still be good." Sie requests. Sie is put off by Hope, but doesn't show it.
"Well, we believe in revolution, but we don't believe that the role of a party is to foment revolution. Revolution should happen naturally and spring from the people, without the help of a vangaurd party. Revolutionaries get in the way of revolution and screw things up. That's why we see things like Soviet Union."

"Well see I have no problems with that. You legitimately needed that. I've known a few people who go on welfare so they can spend their minimum wage on drugs or alcohol. It makes me sick."

"So you believe in revolution but don't believe you should do anything to aid revolution? What do you do then...as a party?" I ask, a little confused by this.

I nod in agreement with Cambridge as I walk into the kitchen. "See a spontaneous revolution is wanted by all, as generally at that point anyone who doesn't want revolution for legitimate reasons would have left long before then. No one uses the revolution for personal vendettas, and therefore you are far less likely to end up with a Stalinist state." I explain. Really I don't know as much about this as Cambridge does, but I try.
"We spread information to people who are interested. Mostly this is to other socialist parties, but we'll help anyone who's interested."

"Yeah, but why do people do that stuff? Why do people do drugs or alcohol? I think a lot is mental illness that is untreated or the general misery of this life."
"Some people need an escape. I don't think they should be blamed, but helped. Face it, this life is pretty tough. Most people get by just by ignoring the problems in the world. If you think about them too much they drive you crazy." Damek says as they walk.
"Like, take that shirt. It could have been made by some kid in Sri Lanka. Some kid who instead of going to school and having fun, is cooped up in a factory sewing clothes so his family can barely survive in poverty. Everything we do, everything we eat and own. It all comes from somewhere and someone."
"It's a sick world. Most people would rather not stop and think about it."

"Yeah, Tom is right. We educate ourselves and others. We can help people learn about socialism so they can make educated decisions, but if we stepped in as a party and called revolution or got too involved, we would flub things up." "It may seem like we don't do much, but if you read Marx, the flaws in Capitalism create revolution, not revolutionaries. So we reject Vanguard parties." "But we are still pro revolution." Cambridge asserts once again.

"And you think that people can carry out their own revolution? Without the help of revolutionaries?" I ask.
"How will they do this without knowledge of revolution or socialism? Couldn't they make mistakes?"

"Yeah it's true that it's a fucked up world, so what do you want me to do? Take off my shirt? I'd say yes but I don't want to embarress you." I joke, then get serious again. "There's nothing wrong with a drink or two, as long as it isn't your crutch to get by on life. I drink a beer or two about every day, but I do it because I happen to like beer. The same thing with cigarettes. Yes I'm addicted and I'll be the first to admit it, but I do it because I enjoy it, not because I'm dependant on it to get by."

"That's why we give information to the people about the mistakes that were made in the past. We don't encourage revolution, but we do help people to know what they need to know to make it a healthy revolution."

"Yeah, and...you don't need to know about socialism for there to be socialist revolution. I think the people have a natural sense of it, I guess. A worker who is upset enough for revolution only has a few options of who they could turn against. Each other, which often happens, or those with power. Bosses would try to get workers to turn on each other, but there comes a point where the workers get smart on this. I put faith in the working class."
"I think the forces at work in the economy within capitalism are strong enough to guide revolution. Oppression speaks volumes more than we could."

"You could. Throw off the oppression of some kid." He replies as they get back to her room.
"No, it wouldn't make much difference. We could all live in a cave and eat mush, but capitalism would continue and that kid would still be making shirts. Nothing will change unless people band together to change it." "Or as a friend I know just said the other day, social problems need social solutions. He was a smart guy."

"So how do you feel about socialists who do agitage more and believe in a vangaurd party?"
"What do you think should be done about that?"

I give him an odd look. "The world's fine just the way it is... Or at least it will be when people quit being idiots. I heard something like this happened two hundred years ago, and then went back to normal inside of five years."

I decide to let Cambridge answer this question, since sie tends to be better at explaining than I am. The first bag of popcorn finally finishes popping, and I take it out and put in a second bag. I pour it out in a big bowl and set it on the table, and get several smaller bowls.

"I don't agree with it. But they should get the point by now. If it happens, it happens. There is no force that can stand in the way of revolution when the time comes for it. We aren't really needed."
"But some do good work. I know they mean well. I can't stop them. I wouldn't try to. I just hope for spontaneous uprising."
"We think all reforms are a waste of time, but, we would help social democrats."
