"That's cool. Maybe sometime I could meet your sister."
"My brother is studying sociology. He is pretty smart. He is a democratic socialist. He is off in the U.S. doing an internship."

I glance to the bedroom. "Yes, we're all still together, I'm sure I could bring him along." I say, not quite sure why he wants to see Mischa so badly.

"Interesting. Yeah maybe some time we should meet each other's sibling. Why not? It could be interesting. I kind of had a falling out with my parents when I got this job as a courier... Mostly because I never got a chance to call them, but we're not estranged or anything."

"This is probably a silly question and none of my business, but are you involved with him?" He asks. He isn't sure why he asked this and regrets asking afterwards.

"Maybe you should call them. I bet they would like to hear from you. There's no time like the present and you never know what will happen tomorrow."

"Sure, why not." I say as I get out my cell phone, and dial the number. I feel a little nervous when I hit send, but in a few minutes I am talking merriily with both of my parents. I tell them where I am and who I am with, and they don't mind.

I blush. "Well, yeah... A little, nothing serious... He's a friend. I have no interest in having a boyfriend..." I say to him.

"Well, that's good. I'm glad you called them. But, I think I am going to head to bed. I am sleepy and we should leave bright and early if we want to make the most of our day." Cambridge says and goes to hir room. Sie sits down on the bed, changes out of hir clothes, then goes to sleep.

I cover up the mouthpiece. "Okay, goodnight." I say to hir before resuming my conversation. We talk for over an hour, and when we are done I go to sleep on the couch.

"Oh." Bassarov says. He doesn't know why this would bother him, but it does ever so slightly. "He seems pretty nice. You probably have a lot in common with him."

"Yeah, I guess we do. We like a lot of the same things. Want me to tell him anything?" I ask on a whim.

"Ask him if he...read the book I left him." Bassarov says. That's all he can think of saying to Mischa. "But I am sorry about being so cross. I had a nice time with you and Mischa. We should get together again in Russia. I am glad to be going home." Home. It comes out of his mouth with longing. It is a foreign word, and being foreign has become a psuedo home, but it is an existance and could never replace the balance of a sense of place. "I will be going home..." He says with a smile. His eyes brighten at the thought and he feels the mounting sensation of both sadness and happiness.

"I think we can come up with an excuse to go to Russia... I'm looking foreward to seeing you again. And it's okay, I wasn't that put off, and I know what it's like to be away from home for months on end."

"That and they killed some of our members and most all of the ISP. It was a stressful time. We are lucky to have escaped at all. The new government wants to kill the opposition." He says.

"Well that's horrible. There's no reason to kill innocent, mostly harmless people. It's just stupid." I say. I am feeling worse about what I did earlier, and I plan to hand in my resignation to Kolov and have my unit transferred to another general's jurisdiction.
