Zinn's motorboat putters out of gas, but she can see the shore anyway. The boat is half filled with water, and she spends half of her time rowing, and the other half bailing the boat out. She's also duct taped her laptop and written manuscruipts to her head, so they won't get wet.

Freak Boy awoke to the sound of... was that a motor boat? The sound stopped, so he just kept his hand on his pistol and went back to sleep.
He stood out on the shore though--a guy in a black trench coat, on the whiteish sand doesn't exactly blend in. He's leaning against a large piece of drift wood at the moment.

The books and computer on Zinn's head are hurting her neck, so hopping out of the boat is a relief. Pulling the tape off hurts like a bitch, but she's had worse. Much, much worse.
Zinn notices Freak Boy lounging on the sand in his trenchcoat, with his hand on his gun.
"Is that a gun in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?" She mocks, putting the stuff down.
She is wearing a black, high collared shirt, black pants, and combat boots, but she figures that mocking Freak Boy for wearing a trench coat on the beach is reasonable.
"Bloody hell man, It's 87.64 degrees. Why are you wearing that bloody thing? Are you daft?"

"I'm wearing it because it's where I keep my stuff," he says groggily, standing up. So much for getting some sleep.
"Besides... I grew up in temperatures way warmer than this. Haven't seen you in a while. How're things going with you?"

"Eh, alright. I wrote a couple of essays about Valodya Bassarov and his role in the creation of Red Infinity, the prevalent sexism and anti-feminism of Red Infinity, and I caught up on my reading. I've had enough of the cloistered hermit life though. I got bored."
Zinn pauses.
"Speaking of Bassarov, I heard he died. My condolences."
Zinn's voice is unusually flat, as usual, but she does display a hint of sympathy and sadness.

Suzumi glanced over at Riku, slightly surprised at his question. "No, I didn't live in a temple...I lived with my father in a large hollowed out tree...part of it was underground. We did live a few miles near a temple, however. My father would often take care of it while the priests were away...."
She picked up a small duffel bag and her knapsack from the ground beside her. These contained almost all of her worldy possessions. She was ready to depart.
Turning toward Riku, she inquired, "So, is the farmhouse close by?"

"Yeah... we were all... impacted in some way or another," Freak Boy says, hoping Zero didn't catch that. Whenever somebody mentions Bassarov's name she starts getting really emotional.
"I was sick and tired of staying in that wierd other plane of existence, so I told Boxy I had things to do, said my goodbyes to Mac, and came back to Helsinki... only trouble was that Helsinki was bombed to bejezus and back, so instead I'm here."

"Eh, they'll rebuild it. They always do. That city must not have a single historical building. It's really sad, actually. I might write about the loss of culture that Red Infinity has brough at some point," Zinn says, making a mental note.
Zinn ignores Freak Boy's mumblings about his imaginary friends. Everyone who's had contact with Red Infinity is batshit insane. She belives in live and let live, as long as it doesn't cause any harm.
Zinn feels a stab of paranoia at the mention of Zero.
After all, she was only a member of the rebels because of Bassarov. Now that he's dead, she's a loose cannon, one that could betray them. After all, she doesn't have anyone here to tell her what to do, or to hold on to.
"Ah... How is Zero," she asks flatly, concealing the fact that she is actually in panic mode right now.

"She's doing fine... except she's pregnant, so she's not allowed to smoke anymore and is a little... nuts. Helene is the only one capable of keeping her from smoking--I tried to take a pack away from her and she made it very clear if I tried anything then I would be kaput...
"She's very committed to helping the overthrow of Red Infinity and is trying to get us organized again. We could use all the help we can get," he said, a big 'hint hint' tone in his voice.

Zinn breathes a mental sigh of relief. A baby, especially Bassarov's baby, could keep Zero safely aligned, occupied, and loyal enough.
"Are you asking me to help?" she asks rhetorically, raising an eyebrow. Zinn touches her glasses, and runs her fingers through her short hair. She's been ticking less lately, but they still come every once in a while.

"Well--I mean--that is... yes. I'm asking for your help. Come on... please...," he says. There's a slight pause. "... We would... appreciate it?"

Zinn half-smiles wryly.
"Freak Boy, do you really think I came all the way from California in a dingy, leaking motorboat just to chat? Of course I would be interested in helping," she replies.
"Although watching you beg is pretty gratifying. I was considering waiting a little while longer and getting you to lick my boots or something, but there's always some other time."
It's hard to tell if Zinn is being sarcastic.

"Oh hush," he said, taking her comment seriously. "Anyway, glad to have you. We don't know where we're going to be staying at the moment, but so far it looks like we'll be in the Saharra or Siberia or some other place where Red Infinity won't really bother looking for us... Helene says we'll be on the move a lot until the baby is born."

"Siberia? Isn't that where Red Infinity wants us to be? Last time I checked, there was still a string of gulags there. Why not... Africa or something. Or America. America is basically abandoned, except for Capital City, which is now under Red Infinity control. I've actually been hiding in America for the past year or so, and I haven't run into any problems. Hell, we could probably run around North America and South America for years, and the weather is much better. Sure, there's that wee problem regarding radioactivity, but as long as we all take iodine, everything is fine."

"Actually, my suggestion is the underground caverns left over from the underground rivers in the Saharra. Nice weather in those tunnels--fresh water... not much food, but we'll think of something.
"As for South America--that's where I was with Zero when Cephrien attacked us, sooooo... yeah. That's not too safe anymore," he said, running a hand through his hair.
