"We should." He replies contently. He puts his hand on her back as they walk back. He does feel better about things. Maybe they aren't as bad as he thought previously. They arrive back in the room, but Masha must still be out.

I walk with him in contented silence as we go back. Sure when I see that we're alone I would like to 'fool around,' or at least sleep next to him. But I don't want to be unfair to Masha, and in the process offend Bassarov. "Can you at least give me a goodnight kiss? A real kiss?"

Bassarov laughs. "Of course I can." After changing clothes, he sits down beside her and puts his hand on her thigh. He leans to her face and gives her a kiss as requested.

I kiss him back passionately and edge closer to him, but regain control. "Thanks. Sometime we'll have to do more but if you don't want to now that's fine. See you in the morning." I say as I lay down and pull the sheets over myself.

"Goodnight." Bassarov goes to his own bed and gets inside. He does miss having someone to sleep next to. But, it was nice to kiss someone again. He closes his eyes and goes to sleep without problem. Tomorrow is May Day, the best day of the year.

"I am taking a trip back to China. I will be out of my office the next few days, but I think everything is self explainitory. The diplomats will meet with you and advise you I imagine. You can then continue talks with the other lawyers on the international team."
I set my cup down.
"Anyway, it was pleasant meeting you. I don't expect that I will talk to you again, but, I will of course see the fruits of your work."

There is a heaviness in the room. Finally I just outright ask him. "I know this may seem like an odd question, but you aren't attracted to me are you?"
"Since if you are, I don't want to do anything that would upset you." I say to Rod. I look at the wall clock.
"We better head to the protests. But before we go...is that the case?"

I leave my Chicago hotel for the protests. Already there are at least a thousand people just outside my hotel. The protest is very large. It is raining lightly so I put on my raincoat. Carrying and umbrella and a sign, I meet up with other ISO members and start marching in the rain.

The protests have already begun so I head downtown and join up with members of the Green Party there. There are MPs, Green Party members, and supporters there. We have our own table, and although I do not hold I sign, I am glad to march with the others.
It is always interesting to see such a broad slice of the left out on this day.
I smile and look around the crowd for Toivo. I think he is speaking today.

Masha slips into the hotel room later that night. Both Selja and Valodya seemed to be sleeping, so she did her best to be quiet. Collecting her shorts and t-shirt that she slept in, she went into the bathroom and changed.

After going to a few bars, Alejos heads back to Cheech and Tommy's place. He watches the news and hears the Chief of Police explain that he's not worried about a few lazy commie's on a strike... Alejos just smiles. He is certainly mistaken.

Night passes uneventfully and finally the day comes. Bassarov wakes up and gets ready for the day. Already the streets are flooded with demonstrators and strikers, though he is unsure what is happening in other parts of Brazil.
"Well, let's head down there and join everyone." Bassarov suggests to the girls.

"Well I hope your not disappointed then."
I finish my coffee and gather my things.
"Be sure to watch out for the communists while your in China, they've been running around all over the place as of late.... Honestly we need to find exterminators for those idealistic bugs soon. It's ridiculous how they multiply."

Once Selja and Masha are ready, the three of them head down to the protests. Bassarov spots Alejos and other socialists, whom he joins. "This is much larger than I thought." Bassarov says of the crowed.
(I'll be on later, May Day stuff, whooo hooooooooo!!)
