"I'm a feminist, but I'm more domesticated than I look." Deirdre replies, showing off the skeleton in her closet. "Just how I was raised I guess."
Although she knows she'll get an upset stomach from it, Deirdre manages to finish her food. "Thanks, should we go wait for the bus?"

"Sure, that's fine. They come every 10 min. so it's nice." Antero says as he puts on a light coat. The coat looks like a blue track jacket from the 1970s. It is uncertain if he wears it because he is poor or because he likes the style. He leads Deidre down the street to the bus stop then waits.
"I like waiting for the bus. It brings back memories of when I was in school. A person is more free when they don't own a car. I feel free on the bus, even if I have to wait for it..."

Sakari tilts his cards up just enough to see what they are. 2/7 off suit, what a horrible hand... He calls, and stays in just long enough to get down to 9 euros.
Here come the cards. A two, a seven, and another two. Dumb fucking luck... I check.
Checks go around the table, until it gets to the other shark. He raises. Sakari smiles on the inside, but keeps his unsure atmosphere when the bet comes to him. He calls, hesitantly, and rests his head on his hand.
Next card, a three. Checks all around until the shark raises again. Everybody folds, save me. I call.
Last card, an ace. The shark raises enough to put Sakari all in. Sakari calls. He shows three aces, and Sakari shows his full house, and says "two of a kind, three of a kind!" Laughter circles around the table, and the dealer says,
"That's a full house kid. Beginner's luck." I shrug my shoulders, as though I were apathetic about the terminology and take the man's money. I'm now up to 25 euros.
"Oh man that was awesome, I didn't really know if that was good or not but it was all five cards so I decided to stay in!" Sakari says with a cute naivety. The "shark" is now visibly upset, having lost about a third of his cash.
He's exactly where I want him.

I wake up early but Shura is already gone. I imagine he is already out working. Taking advantage of the fact that he is gone, I take a shower and freshen up. I slept well last night but was troubled by strange dreams.
As long as Shura is gone, I can not resist looking through some of his work. I want to see what he does.
I peek through brown folders of maps and census information. There is also information from banks on land loans. I suppose this makes it easier for him to tell who owns what land.
I feel a little guilty looking through his things, but somehow can not resist finding out information.
I do not consider it snooping. It is research.
I put the papers back neatly, just as I found them, and wait for his return.

"He must have got lucky. Maybe he should quit while he is ahead. That seems the smartest thing to do." Cambridge says to Selja. Sie doesn't know the first thing about poker and it all seems a little too risky for hir.
"I really don't like cards. Not even Crazy 8s." Sie says to Selja, then sits back to observe Sakari once again.

"Well if you lost as big as I did you wouldn't even want to play socially." I say as I make my way over to the bar. "I want a daquiri and a 7-up." I turn to Cambridge as I grab an ashtray and a bowl of peanuts. "Want anything, I'll buy."

As they wait for the bus Deirdre can already feel the grilled cheese working its magic on her stomach. She lets out a subtle groan of pain. She tries to ignore it so's not to offend Antero.
"I feel the same way. I remember my mother would wait for me at the bus stop and see me off." Deirdre says just as the bus arrives. She boards with Antero, and all the seats are taken. They make their way to the back, and hold on to the poles for balance.

"Are you feeling okay? You look a little sick. Here, have a mint. It will make you feel better." Antero digs into his track jacket pocket and pulls out some andes mints. They are a little smushed and linty and appear that they may have come with the vintage jacket.
"Just pick the lint off."

"That would be nice. I'll have a root beer." Sie doesn't know why, but sie suddenly has a strange craving for rootbeer.

"Put that on my tab." I say to the bartender as I fish the last cigarette out of my pack. Our drinks arrive, and I take a sip of mine and chase it down with some peanuts. "I wonder which of us is going to lose more money, me or Sakari?"

"Not sure. But I think Sakari will do okay. He seemed pretty confident earlier. So you said that you used to gamble?"

A few hands into it, Sakari is on fire. A few people leave the table, having broken even and not wanting to take any more chances, and some people just lose all their money. The number of people here is cut in half.
I'm up to close to 40 euros now, the other is just over 60, while another is at 20, and two more are hovering around 10.
Sakari is doing a good job of wearing his hand on his sleeve, that is, getting other people to easily believe that when he raises, he has a good hand, checking, he has a bad hand.

Deirdre gets sicker looking at the mint but takes a deep breath. "Thanks, but I think I'll pass..." The bus goes over a hard bump, making things a little worse.
"I think it's just... Car... sickness..." Deirdre says, leaning down in the aisle.
"I'll be okay. So tell me a story about the bus." She says to change the subject.

I did it once. And as I said I lost two THOUSAND dollars on one hand. THat sucked, and I will never gamble again." I take another sip of my drink, and light my cigarette. "I really need to quit this before I start doint it more..."

"I used to sit with this really eccentric kid on the bus. He and I used to talk about space aliens. One time he made an alien bomb and brought it to school. Um, the teachers found out and expelled him for being a threat to school security. I never saw him after that." Antero says. He scratches his head for a moment as he thinks about that kid. The bus stops at the airport.
"Oh we're here. I think he just transferred schools now that I think of it. I wish I remembered his name. I think it started with an H. Or was it an S."
