I am worried that maybe I am presenting some information and ideas that are not realistic, so, I am just going to point out these things so I can sleep at night knowing that I am not miseducating people.
So when you play this game, please keep in mind that although it is semi realstic, there are many things that would probably never happen in the real world.
List of unrealistic things...
1. It is unlikely that Bassarov would be a Trotskyist and Russian since there are few in Russia.
2. It is unlikely that Bassarov or other socialists would be traveling all over to do activism. Activism would probably be done locally.
3. Certain socialists would probably have been kicked out of the party for not following their party line.
4. Maoists are not bad people who want to take over the world
5. Libertarians (with the help of anarcho capitalists)would not carry out a revolution in England or anywhere. They are pretty set on the electoral process.
6. Libertarians are not evil and do not torture people, kill people, and are not against civil liberties. Instances in England where these things happened in the rpg are not realistic and should be looked at as something that went along with the anarcho capitalist revolution and keeping down dissent long enough to make sure the state was dissolved.
7. Nihilists probably wouldn't have a large terrorist organization. Although there were some Russian nihilist terrorists and small groups in the 1800s.
8. I am not sure if the stock market could crash because of a hacker.
9. It is unlikely that there would be a gay or feminist terrorist group as there is in the rpg. Although in England for instance, (I believe) feminists did carry out terrorism in the late 1800s and early 1900s. (arson, bombings)
10- It is unlikely that Germany would fall under the control of Nazis
11. Most every poor or working class socialist, anarchist, feminist...whatever character would be working more than they do and traveling a lot less
12. Individual Capitalists are not "bad guys" (some are in fact very moral, charitable, and good people)but it is hard to present the wrongs of capitalism in the form of an rpg unless all characters were forced to role play poverty, preventable disease, long hours of work, poor working conditions, and the like. So, don't get confused that I am against capitalism because I think capitalists are like Keitoleinen or Calithin, or whomever. It is just difficult to present the realities of poverty in the developing world, sweatshop labor, death by preventable disease, poor sanitation, and the like in the form of an rpg, so often times the capitalists appear evil to compensate for the fact that it is hard to present the injustices of capitalism as a system. Or I could, but that would make for a boring rpg.
-That's all I can think off at the top of my head, but the main point is that yes, there are some unrealistic elements in this rpg and at times certain parties and beliefs may be presented unfairly or unrealisticly.
If you find that something is unfair or unrealistic, the best thing you can do is try to present your views through your characters.
So, if for instance you are a Maoist and think that Maoists on this rpg are presented poorly, then by all means, educate us as to how Maoists really are and what they really think through your character.
I am limited by my ideologies, biases, and experiences, but also by the nature of the game itself.
